Best Meatloaf! Gluten Free too!

I have been playing with meatloaf recipes through the years because it is often a "Viv cleaned out the refrigerator" type of mixture. This recipe is one I landed on during one of those times and it is now the one that I come back to over and over - making it to this ingredient list intentionally. This recipe is also very forgiving.  You can clean out your own refrigerator and add in or remove other ingredients.  *See alternative variations below the  recipe. If you do not need to Read more [...]

Day 10: NaBloPoMo Check In

Today is Day 10 of NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month). Eden Kennedy launched NaBloPoMo in 2006.  It has grown to include almost 2000 bloggers, and it’s now officially under the auspices of BlogHer (www.blogher.com) which is why - if you came to this site through BlogHer - you see a BlogHer frame around my site. Actually, to be exact, there are 1833 bloggers signed up as of today with #1833 being Rottweilers Ate My Laptop.1  You gotta love that title! I have not visited that site. Read more [...]

Sand Shrooms

As I mentioned in a recent post, Cranberry Coincidence, one of the highlights of my recent trip back east was Walking Dunes in Hither Hills State Park.  An absolutely amazing place! One of the things that tickled me about the place were all the mushrooms; many of which were popping out of pure sand.  I come from the wet, green, Pacific Northwest where the mushrooms I see may have appeared suddenly, but they live in the thick humus our abundant vegetation provides (upon its demise and decomposition). WordPress Tweak, Tinker, & Twiddle Trap

Blogging is an art. But so is managing a blog! A number of months ago, I decided to switch all of my sites off of Typepad and onto self-hosted WordPress. There are many reasons that I did this, and I still feel that I made the right decision. However, I had no idea how much work it would be and how much work, even this many months later, it still entails. There has been a steep learning curve and I continue to work hard to get the sites set up the way I want them; both in terms of functionality Read more [...]

Owly Owly In Free?

As you know if you have poked around on my website, especially my voice talent website: VividlyClear.com, I love owls.  So when I saw these owls I wanted to share a few of them here. These images are from Bored Panda - 20 Amazing Examples of Owl Camouflage.  Please follow the link to see all twelve.  Bored Panda says this about the owls: Feathered animals have mastered the art of disguise of three different types: they either use color, marking or posture camouflage. A snowy owl, for example, Read more [...]

Cranberry Coincidence

I just signed up for NaBloPoMo tonight. What's that? you say.  It is National Blog Posting Month!  Yes, I am serious.  It exists.  It is sponsored by BlogHer.com.  The goal and the commitment is to post an entry to your blog every single day in November.  So, here comes a blog post number 1! Back in the days when Hurricane Sandy was not yet even a puff of air - like all of three weeks ago - I was on the east coast visiting a good friend, Allan. I actually have quite a few blog Read more [...]

Egg Yolk Hysteria & Bad Reporting

I have a big pet peeve about bad science and the news media that then spreads the misinformation! The news outlets were all a-flutter recently with headlines like Egg Yolk Consumption Almost as Bad as Smoking When It Comes to Atherosclerosis, Study Suggests[1] (Source: ScienceDaily.com). Way at the very, very end of the article it mentions, almost as an after-thought, that the researchers did not take into account exercise or waist circumference.  And it seems that either the researchers or Read more [...]

Are we becoming multiple new species?

This TED Talk below by Juan Enriquez is one of the most thought provoking, scary, exciting, and explanatory talks that I have seen. (And believe me, I have seen a lot.) He very convincingly postulates that we are in the throes of a major evolutionary change and that our kid's kids or grandkids may be a new species. He points out that throughout human evolution, multiple versions of humans co-existed. Then dives into some of the things being discovered by genome mapping. ... we're actually beginning Read more [...]

For the Price of Blue Cheese and other thoughts on Culture

This photo is of the remains of a wedge of wonderful, melt-in-your-mouth Bleu D Auvergne Terre Des Volcans.  It is delicious with crisp apples.  The missing part of the wedge was enjoyed with two Pink Ladies - who did not hang around long enough to be photographed, i.e. Yum! What makes this cheese extra special is that I was given it today by a Whole Foods employee.  I had accidently left it in my basket and realized it after I paid for the rest of the groceries.  I handed it to the clerk Read more [...]

The Healing Power of Vulnerability

What follows are three extremely wonderful talks by Brené Brown, PhD.  I have listened to all three of these talks numerous times and there is still so much to get from them. Brené Brown, PhD. studies shame, empathy, vulnerability, courage, joy and love & belonging. These talks are enlightening, and encouraging.  She takes on the subtle messages our culture gives us which turns what should be joy into "foreboding joy" - you know, those thoughts we have when we are just at the peak Read more [...]
